Combination photo shows the file photo (upper) of the Yunnanyi Airport during the anti-Japanese war period (1937-1945) in southwest China's Yunnan Province and photo (lower) of the same place taken on June 29, 2015. After Japanese forces occupied the western part of the Nujiang River in 1942, Yunnanyi became increasingly important as a strategic military airport for the Allies on the frontline, as it was the intersection of the Ancient Tea Road, the Burma Road and the Hump Course. Seventy years after the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Xinhua journalists recently re-visited the Stilwell Road linking southwest China's Yunnan and Myanmar, also known as the Burma Road, on which guns, ammunition, food and other badly needed materials were carried by U.S. trucks to China to fight against the Japanese troops.
