Confession of Shiro Azuma
Introduction
Former Japanese soldier Shiro Azuma released his wartime diary in early 1987, only to disclose the atrocities by the invading Japanese troops in China. It was on Dec. 13 of the same year when he came to Nanjing to apologize for his crimes, and thenceforth he came to Nanjing repeatedly for apology. His release of diary and apology to Nanjing roused great hate among the right-wing forces in Japan who filed lawsuit against him in Japan. And the 80-year-old Shiro Azuma, who was determined to unmask the truth of the Nanjing Massacre, maintained his position in an eight-year-long lawsuit.
On Feb. 27, 2000, Shiro Azuma knelt down before the "Victims 300,000" stone wall in Nanjing and sincerely expressed his apology during his sixth visit to China.
